Gayatri Patnaik is Editorial Director at Beacon Press. Patnaik received her M.A. in Anthropology from The New School for Social Research in New York City and, after a Random House internship, began her publishing career at Rob Weisbach Books, an imprint of William Morrow. She then moved to Routledge, where she was promoted to editor, and after that worked as senior editor at Palgrave-Macmillan. Patnaik joined Beacon Press in 2002 where she has worked with authors including Cornel West, Mary Frances Berry, Robin D.G. Kelley, Kate Bornstein, Marcus Rediker. Two of Patnaik's acquisitions include Roxanne Dunbar-Ortiz’s ‘An Indigenous Peoples’ History of the United States,’ the 2015 recipient of the American Book Award, and ‘The Rebellious Life of Mrs. Rosa Parks’ by Jeanne Theoharis which won the 2014 NAACP Image Award.
