Raquel V. Reyes

A headshot of Raquel V. Reyes, a Latina with short black hair with a distinct wave. She is wearing a vibrant blue top, silver hoop earrings, and a pendant with a stylized mermaid in silver and blue. She is smiling broadly at the camera in front of a gradient blue background.

Raquel V. Reyes (she/her/ella) is a member of the UU Congregation of Miami, where she’s a past worship chair, and a co-organizer of Biscayne Unitarian Church (2012–2014). She is the author of the Caribbean Kitchen Mystery series featuring food anthropologist Miriam Quiñones. Raquel’s quince writings are in honor of her Cuban heritage, her partner’s Puerto Rican–Dominican heritage, and the teenagers in her congregation — many of whom are gender nonconforming. Raquel wanted to give their generation new words to modernize a cultural tradition that is important to Latinx heritage.
