CAR Care: Building Trust Among Leaders

CAR Care Leads to Trust

Based on The Thin Book of Trust  by Charles Feltman

When assessing trustworthiness in yourself and others, there are four major qualities to look out for:

Competence

  • ability to perform a task or get a job done. Possesses skills, knowledge, and resources; and is open to being trained

Authenticity

  • honesty and integrity to be believed and taken seriously. Expresses an opinion that is useful, sound, and reasonable. Action and words are in alignment. Whole-hearted.

Reliability

  • meets commitments and promises made in a timely manner.

Care

  • keeps the other person’s interests in mind as well as one’s own when making decisions/taking actions. Shows compassion and is the quality out of all of them that will build lasting trust. When broken, there are mechanisms to restore trust in a restorative way, calling each other back in to covenant.
