Housing 1984 Business Resolution

WHEREAS, an adequate supply of low-cost housing which is available on a nondiscriminatory basis is essential to meet the shelter needs of persons of low income, fixed income, and those who are elderly and/or handicapped; and

WHEREAS, societies and districts of the Unitarian Universalist Association have participated in efforts to provide low-cost, cooperative, shared and retirement housing;

BE IT RESOLVED: That the 1984 General Assembly of the Unitarian Universalist Association urges increased federal, state, provincial or local support for housing for the disadvantaged, the elderly, and the handicapped; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That this Assembly asks the Section on Social Responsibility to affiliate with one or more interfaith coalitions for housing, that in coordination with the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee it share relevant information so obtained with Unitarian Universalist societies through the UU WORLD and by such other means as may be appropriate and that it encourage member societies to participate in low-cost housing ventures on their own or in cooperation with other religious or concerned nonprofit entities.
