Community Ministry Sunday is celebrated on the first Sunday in February.

Chaplains in settings such as hospitals, hospices, prisons, college campuses, the military and police departments, educators; musicians; spiritual directors; therapists; street ministers; arts ministers; social justice ministers and activists; leaders in service organizations; UUA, regional and district staff and more—all these community ministers do the hard work of bringing our UU Principles to serving in the wider world. Community Ministry Sunday (which can be celebrated anytime) is an opportunity to support the work of those who engage actively in building the world we want to live in. The date honors four naval chaplains of different faiths who worked together to save lives and sacrificed their own in 1943 as the SS Dorchester went down under Nazi fire. Some churches devote an entire worship service to Community Ministry Sunday, others receive a special offering for the UU Society for Community Ministries or a related organization. Worship resources can be found on the UU Society for Community Ministries website.
