Covenant

As the UUA Presidential Search Committee, we strive to work together as a team of dedicated volunteers to identify candidates who will serve and lead our faith tradition well, in preparation for the presidential election in 2023. Holding in common our love for Unitarian Universalism, and our commitment to transparency, inclusion, and dismantling systems of oppression, we affirm this covenant and promise one another:

  • that we will prioritize this work being clear about the commitments we are making and the capacity they require, and following through to the best of our ability.
  • that we will hold a balance of confidentiality and transparency within this space, knowing that our work is at times delicate, requiring discretion, and that we want the process of our work to be understood and affirmed by our larger community.
  • that we will honor the identities and skills we each bring to this team, and remember the unequal sacrifices required to contribute.
  • that we all have permission to be messy, and commit to practicing grace and forgiveness.
  • that we will share the responsibility of acknowledging and countering oppressive power structures, and ensuring that it does not fall to those of us who are most marginalized to point out when these oppressive systems are being enacted.
  • that we will listen actively and speak candidly with each other, seeking deep collaboration and healthy communication.
  • that we will remain open to possibility and embrace innovation.
  • that we will regularly return to gratitude and joy, reminded that this work should be spiritually fulfilling.

Knowing that we will fall short of these promises, we understand that it will take acts of accountability to return to right relationship.

Knowing that our needs may change throughout our time together, we commit to returning to these promises every two to three months.

In commitment to our work together, we affirm this covenant.
