Prayers : “Counting Prayers to End Poverty”
Also appropriate as Other Rituals
The world now has the means to end extreme poverty,
we pray we will have the will.
What is this prayer about?
The Millennium Development Goals were established by the United Nations in 2000 to address issues like extreme poverty, education, gender equality, child mortality, women’s health, diseases such as HIV/AIDS and malaria, and environmental sustainability. An online movement called "Counting Prayers" invites every congregation (or individual) of every faith in every country to pledge to say the above prayer at every worship service until the millennium goals are met. The website will count each pledged prayer and display a rolling tally on every page. The website also has ideas about how to integrate the prayer into worship services, and links to more information about the Millennium Development Goals.
