Eligibility for the UU Group Insurance Plans
The three Unitarian Universalist Group Insurance Plans (UUGIP) are:
- Long Term Disability (LTD)
- Life/AD&D (Life plus accidental death and dismemberment)
There is no waiting period before eligible employees may enroll.
Who is Eligible for Dental, Life and LTD Coverage?
Employees who may be eligible to participate:
- Ministers of Unitarian Universalist (UU) congregations
- Staff of UU congregations and certain affiliated organizations
- UU Community Ministers affiliated with a congregation
Employees who work at least 750 hours per year (15 hours per week) and receive a W-2 are eligible to participate. The contract with our insurer, the Guardian Life Insurance Company, requires employers who offer coverage to offer both Life and LTD insurance to all eligible employees. There is no requirement for employers to pay for the coverage for their employees.
When Can an Eligible Employee Enroll in Life and LTD Coverage?
Eligible employees must enroll within the first 60 (sixty) calendar days from date of hire/eligibility. If this deadline is missed, medical evidence of insurability is required and must be approved by Guardian's underwriters. Enrollment is not guaranteed after the first 60 days of employment.
Employees who did not apply for LTD and/or Life/AD&D coverage during their first 60 (sixty) calendar days from date of hire/eligibility may contact insurance_plans [at] uua [dot] org to inquire about submitting evidence of insurability for underwriting approval.
Additional Dental Plan Enrollment Information
Employee with a Qualifying Event for Dental Insurance?
The Dental plan (only) has annual Open Enrollment.
