ENDS for the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA): UUA Governance Manual Section One

Adopted April 19, 2009. Revised 18 October 18, 2009.

These ENDS are also known as the “Global ENDS” and as the “Shared Vision” of the Association.

Grounded in our covenantal tradition, the member congregations of the Unitarian Universalist Association will inspire people to lead lives of humility and purpose, connection and service, thereby transforming themselves and the world.

  1. Congregations that unlock the power that transforms lives.

    1. In our congregations, participants deepen their spiritual lives. People:

      1. Develop a personal spiritual practice

      2. Participate in meaningful worship

      3. Learn and practice empowered leadership and generosity

      4. Find their ministry in the world

    2. Our congregations are:

      1. Vibrant—joyful and excited about their ministries

      2. Intentionally multi-generational and multi-cultural

      3. Embracing and struggling with issues of oppression and privilege

      4. Open and inclusive in their outreach and welcome

      5. Ministries deeply shared by ministers and the laity

      6. Active participants in ministerial preparation and development

      7. Growing in membership

      8. Living their mission in their communities

  2. Congregations that live in covenant with other congregations in our Association through:

    1. A strong, articulated sense of UU and community identity

    2. High expectations of their members

    3. Full participation in Associational life

    4. Networking with each other

  3. Congregations that move toward sustainability, wholeness and reconciliation.

    1. Our congregations answer the call to ministry and justice work:

      1. Grounded in the communities in which they live

      2. Nationally and internationally

      3. With interfaith partners and alliances

    2. The public engages in meaningful dialogue and takes action informed by our prophetic voice and public witness.

  4. These ENDS are all of equal importance and are to be achieved within a justifiable cost, with their priority set by the President.
