Freedom of Residence

1961 General Resolution

BE IT RESOLVED: That the Unitarian Universalist Association urges the President of the United States to promulgate an executive order prohibiting discrimination in federal housing and urban renewal programs and establishing a committee to develop a program of implementation of the same.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That the Unitarian Universalist Association urges its churches and fellowships to:

  1. Call upon their individual members to make all housing, urban and suburban, new or old, which they control as owners, dealers, brokers, builders, or mortgagors available to any qualified person, without regard to race, color, creed or national origin;
  2. Call upon all real estate dealers, brokers, and mortgagors to do the same;
  3. Request their city and state legislators to repeal all existing laws prohibiting discrimination in housing;
  4. Stimulate, encourage, and participate in educational programs, meetings, and other activities sponsored by both governmental and voluntary agencies and designed to promote equality of opportunity in housing.
