LEADER RESOURCE 1: Rote Teaching, Love Surrounds Us Song

To the tune of "Jesus Loves Me, This I Know." Lyrics by Ruth Gibson, in Treasure Hunting Take Two, self-published by Gaia Brown and Ellen W. Schneider.

The rote teaching method for singing involves these steps:

  • Sing the entire song to participants as they listen.
  • Sing first line and ask participants to repeat the line.
  • Sing the second line and ask participants to repeat the line.
  • Sing the first and second line together and ask participants to repeat the line.
  • Sing the third line and ask the participants to repeat the line.
  • Sing the fourth line and ask the participants to repeat the line.
  • Sing the first through fourth lines and ask participants to repeat.
  • Continue in the same manner for the second verse.
  • Sing the entire song.

Love surrounds us this I know
