UUA Director of Bisexual, Gay, Lesbian, Transgender Concerns Issues Statement After New York Senate Vote Defeat

December 3, 2009

Rev. Keith Kron, Director of the Unitarian Universalist Association’s Office of Bisexual, Gay, Lesbian, and Transgender (BGLT) Concerns, issued the following statement on December 2, 2009, following the defeat of a marriage equality vote in the New York state senate:

The Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) is saddened but resolved after today's vote in the New York state senate fell short of bringing marriage equality to that state. We are thankful for the hard work of Unitarian Universalists and other New Yorkers who have committed to ending discrimination and making marriage equality a reality. Your efforts have made a difference, and we applaud your dedication and determination. We feel certain that marriage equality will come to New York and the rest of the United States, and the UUA is committed to ensuring this end. This is a sad day, but it is only a setback in a long and worthy struggle, one that we eventually will win.
