Hosting Your Congregation's Website
Website hosting can be free or cheap, depending on your needs. If you have a budget for your website, you might consider buying your very own domain name (http://yourchurchname.org). The Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) has no official recommendations for web hosting services or design assistance.
- UUISM.Net is highly recommended by fellow Unitarian Universalist (UU) webweavers. They offer low-cost website hosting, email lists, etc. specifically for UUs.
- DreamHost is employee-owned and carbon-neutral, and they offer free hosting for 501(c)3s including email management and one-click installs of Wordpress, Drupal, Joomla, and more. (For a 501(c)3 letter from the UUA, contact administration @ uua.org.)
- GreenGeeks is another green website hosting option with robust help centers, forums and documentation for Wordpress, Drupal, and Joomla.
In most cases, a communications vehicle that represents a congregation should be owned and operated by the congregation as a whole, and be used to further the mission and values of the congregation. Along those lines, Administration and Ownership Considerations offers some specific areas that might be helpful for congregations to consider regarding their websites.
