First Unitarian Church of Des Moines, IA, which is a member of AMOS (A Mid-Iowa Organizing Strategy), a local IAF affiliate, was part of a successful campaign to institute a job training program in Des Moines that trains residents at the local community college and then offers guaranteed jobs upon graduation. In addition to the job training program, AMOS has also campaigned on increased access to health care for uninsured pregnant women and the development of a skate park. All three projects developed out of community interviews with residents and stakeholders to identify the issues most pressing in Des Moines and Ames.
