Sarah Movius Schurr
The Rev. Sarah Movius Schurr began as Congregational Life Staff for the Pacific Western Region in July of 2016. Prior to working for the UUA, Sarah was a parish minister specializing in congregations who were new to ministry, most recently West Hills UU Fellowship in Portland, Oregon. She worked for the Pacific Northwest District as their first Developmental Outreach Minister, bringing professional ministry to small congregations in Alaska. Sarah has served as a transitions coach for many years and currently works closely with ministerial transitions for the PWR.
Sarah was ordained in 2008, at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Corvallis. However, she began her work as a faith leader many years before ordination, serving as a district board member, congregational consultant, and she was new congregation organizer for the Wy’east UU Congregation. Sarah had a successful Social Work career that spanned over 20 years and has experience in organizational development and systems theory.
Sarah is a native of Portland and continues to live in the Rose City with her husband, Scott. They have two grown children and have recently added a little black cat to the household to fill the empty nest a bit. Sarah sings in a community choir and likes all kinds of music, from classical to grunge. She volunteers in Campus Ministry at her alma mater, Reed College. She enjoys cooking and walks in the neighborhood. She works out at the gym at least twice a week, but doesn’t really enjoy that.
