Thrive Young Adult Travel

We’re looking forward to seeing you in New Orleans, LA for 2019 Thrive Young Adult!

Attendee Requirements

  1. You are responsible for making your own travel arrangements.
  2. You must notify of us of your travel plans as soon as possible. Email your travel information (you can forward a reservation confirmation email) to Deborah at dsanders@uua.org with the exact arrival and departure locations/dates/times (including those who are driving) so that we know when we can expect you and where to meet you.

This deadline is pretty tight, so if you have problems it's understandable. Just email or call Deborah at dsanders@uua.org or (617) 948-4355 right away and she'll help you work through any obstacles so you can get there.

Our many thanks for being on top of these event logistics; it makes the whole process so much smoother for everyone!

Financial Assistance

Through the generosity of our donors, the UUA Annual Program Fund and the Alumni Giving Program, some need-based financial assistance was made available for participating in this program. If you received a travel subsidy, you will be notified shortly after your registration date of the amount you were granted.

Funds will be awarded on a rolling basis until they're gone. Your check will be made out to your parent/guardian and mailed to the address you provided on your registration after you have confirmed your participation, unless you tell us you'd prefer a different arrangement.

Travel Policies/Procedures

It is UUA policy that all participants are met and dropped off at the airport or station of their arrival/departure and escorted at all times during the event by UUA staff. Cell phone numbers for event staff are provided before travel, so you can connect with a staff member if there is any trouble with delayed or canceled flights or missed connections. If there are, we will work with you to arrange for transportation - no one is left behind!

Arrival/Departure Times—Flights

If you are arriving by plane, please book your reservation to arrive at the Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY) on Friday, August 30th between 2:00 and 6:00 pm. Departure must be on Monday, September 2nd between 2:00 and 6:00 pm. (It’s very helpful if everyone arrives/departs around the same time, because our event agenda and staffing are tight.)

Everyone will be met and dropped off at the New Orleans airport by program staff in shuttles and escorted back-and-forth to the meeting locations.

If you plan to arrive before Friday, August 30th or leave after Monday, September 2nd (perhaps to visit family/friends) you may still do so, but the UUA does not hold responsibility for you outside of those dates. Please let us know of your other travel plans, how you plan to get to CELSJR, or how we can help you get there.

Local Attendees—Driving

If you are driving directly there, please meet us at CELSJR at 5212 S Claiborne Avenue to arrive on Friday, August 30th between 2:00 - 6:00 pm; you can depart on Monday, September 2nd after 2:00 pm. There will be program staff on-site to welcome you.

Transportation Alternatives—Train, Bus

Please let Sara or Deborah know if you prefer to take a train or bus to this event before you purchase your tickets, so we can coordinate your arrival and departure times with you. We will pick you up and drop you off at your station, but we must arrange the arrival and departure timing tightly due to staffing limitations.

We Are Here to Help

As always, if you have any questions or challenges, please contact Deborah Neisel-Sanders at dsanders@uua.org or (617) 948-4350 and she will be glad to help you through this process.
