Forrest Church Award for Humanitarian Service Honors Co-Founders of #BlackLivesMatter

This year’s Forrest Church Award for Humanitarian Service—honoring individual/s demonstrating courage, influence and selfnessness in the betterment of our world (see previous recipients) will honor the co-founders of #BlackLivesMatter: Alicia Garza, Patrisse Cullors and Opal Tometi. We recognize #BlackLivesMatter’s great influence in raising public consciousness of injustices facing People of Color domestically and internationally, and its role in activating support for racial justice. UUA President Peter Morales will bestow the award, and event speakers include leaders of Black Lives of Unitarian Universalism as well as Rev. Jacqui Lewis of Middle Collegiate Church.

The award ceremony is free and open to the public, and a catered reception will follow. It will be held at 6:30 pm on Thursday, September 15th in the All Souls sanctuary at 1157 Lexington Avenue in Manhattan. Seating is limited, and doors open at 5:45 p.m.—we encourage attendees to arrive early.

This event is co-sponsored by All Souls Unitarian Church and the Heart and Soul Charitable Fund. Unitarian Universalist partners include the UUA and the UU-United Nations Office; other partners include Middle Collegiate Church, New York Theological Seminary, Union Theological Seminary, and Auburn Seminary.
