Guide to Voting in the Congregational Poll & Submitting Comments on Social Justice Statements

Participate in the Social Witness Process!

For both submitting comments on the Reproductive Justice Congregational Study/Action Issue (CSAI) and voting in the Congregational Poll, go to Data Services Login for Congregations to begin. Log in with your congregation's four-digit ID number and password. (The person who certifies your congregation's numbers and updates your congregation's membership information should know the password. There's also a "Forgot your password?" link on the login form.)

Voting in the Congregational Poll, and submitting your congregation's certified membership data, must be completed by the deadline of Monday, February 3, 2014 at 5 p.m. Pacific Time.

Comments on the Congregational Study/Action Issue (CSAI) must be submitted by March 3, 2014 at 5 p.m. Pacific Time.

Congregations will find the link to the CSAI Comment Form by going to the Congregational Login page. Once logged in, a link will be available to the comment submission form. You can preview the comment form by download the Comment Worksheet (PDF).

Your Congregation's Vote Matters

For new proposed CSAIs to appear on the General Assembly (GA) 2014 Agenda, a 25% quorum of congregations is required. That is, 25% of all certified congregations must participate in the Congregational Poll. We're hoping for 100%!

Who can vote in the Congregational Poll?
Any congregation that:

  • submits their completed membership certification form (online or hardcopy) between November 15, 2013, and 5:00 p.m. PST on February 3, 2014, and
  • made a financial contribution to our Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) between July 1, 2012, and June 30, 2013,

can vote and will have their vote counted in the Congregational Poll.

What's the deadline to vote in the Congregational Poll?
5:00 p.m. PST on Monday February 3, 2014! (Note this is 5:00 p.m. Pacific Standard Time, or 8:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time). You can vote anytime between November 15, 2013, and 5:00 p.m. PST February 3, 2014, but the deadline is firm!

What's the deadline to submit comments?
For comments on the Reproductive Justice CSAI, the deadline is 5:00 p.m. PST on March 3, 2014.

Where will you find the Congregational Poll ballot?
It's connected to the online Congregational Certification form, for which a login is required. You can vote in the poll at the same time that your congregation certifies its membership numbers, or later, up to the deadline. Please note that the login information (a 4-digit ID number and password) is likely available ONLY from your minister or congregational administrator, not UUA staff or the CSW.

Go to Data Services Login for Congregations to begin. Log in with your congregation's four-digit ID number and password. (The person who certifies your congregation's numbers and updates your congregation's membership information should know the password. There's also a "Forgot your password?" link on the login form.) Click the "Begin Certification of Membership 2014" button to display the certification form, which includes the Congregational Poll ballot.

Where will you find the comment forms?
Go to Data Services Login for Congregations to begin. Log in with your congregation's four-digit ID number and password. (The person who certifies your congregation's numbers and updates your congregation's membership information should know the password. There's also a "Forgot your password?" link on the login form.) There you will find links to the Reproductive Justice CSAI comment form.

How many votes does a congregation get?
Your congregation can vote for up to five of the proposed CSAIs

Can you change your mind once your vote has been cast?
Yes, as long as you cast your final vote before the deadline of February 3, 2014. Changes to your congregation's votes cannot be accepted after the deadline. Go to Data Services Login for Congregations and log in with your congregation's ID number and password. Click the "Begin Certification of Membership 2014" button and recast your vote.

How will you know that your congregation has been certified and that your Congregational Poll vote has been recorded?
Once you certify, you receive a confirmation email. This goes to your congregational address in the database and to the email address entered on the certification form. Your vote on the SOC is confirmed in this same communication. A list of certified congregations, with an indication of which have voted in the poll, is online.

Why should our congregation vote?
Because you can! Ours is a democratic process of participation in our Unitarian Universalist Association. The quality of our democracy depends on your participation! Your participation in the Congregational Poll is part of the process for deciding on what and how our Association of congregations should take action.
