Social Witness Sermon Contest

Sponsored by the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) Commission on Social Witness (CSW) & Unitarian Universalist Ministers Association (UUMA)

The Social Witness Sermon Contest is your opportunity to speak out on any dimension of the current Congregational Study/Action Issue. Let your views from the pulpit on this important topic reach a wider audience. You might even win $500 (USD). See past sermon contest winners.

Topic of Sermon

The Congregational Study/Action Issue for 2012-2016 is "Reproductive Justice: Expanding Our Social Justice Calling."  The one for 2014-2018 is “Escalating Inequality.”  Either topic is eligible.

Submissions are due Friday, March 6, 2015.

Who Can Enter

The contest is open to both clergy and laypeople as long as the sermon was delivered to a Unitarian Universalist congregation.

You must have delivered the sermon to a congregation within the past year and before the deadline.

How to Enter

Submit in MS Word, WordPerfect, Rich Text Format, or Plain Text. (PDF not acceptable.) Email to socialjustice [at] uua [dot] org with the subject line "Social Witness Sermon Contest". Submissions are due Friday, March 6, 2015.

Include Two Items

  1. A cover page, which has your name, address, phone number, email address, sermon title, congregation to whom the sermon was delivered, and date the sermon was delivered. Be sure to indicate this is for the Social Witness sermon contest.
  2. Your sermon with title, from which any identifying information has been taken out (name, congregation). Please do not include footnotes.
