Common Read in New York's North Country
Date: Sunday, March 28, 2021, 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm EDT
Many of us read and hear of the continued deaths of black men at the hands of the police. We’re sad, we’re upset, we’re angry … We don’t know what to do.
As a predominantly white congregation in a predominantly white faith, we at the UU Fellowship of Plattsburgh in upstate New York feel have an obligation to understand our place in the continued suppression, harm and violence that occurs on a daily basis to people of color. These take the form of microaggressions (little things we say and do that cause harm) and of institutional policies and practices that can limit and even kill people of color.
The Black Lives Matter Committee is planning to join UUs across the globe as we read the 2020-21 UUA Common Read book, “Breathe: A Letter to My Sons,” by Imani Perry.
Check out "Breathe: A Letter to My Sons." Register for our event at https://bit.ly/CommonRead2021Registration. Then, join us online at 4 p.m. Sunday, March 28, for a discussion of the book and what it means for us, our community and our world.
