Meet the 2015 General Assembly Youth Caucus Staff!

What is Youth Caucus Staff?

The General Assembly (GA) Youth Caucus is led by a team of youth and adult volunteers that are selected to shape the programming that GA youth attendees experience and to connect them to the larger experience of GA.

The Youth Caucus staff is a group of passionate, enthusiastic, creative youth and adults creating a welcoming, inclusive and exciting Youth Caucus at the 2015 General Assembly on June 24-28 in Portland, OR.

Applications for 2016 Junior Dean GA positions are being accepted until August 5th, 2015. Youth Caucus Deans are the leaders of the volunteer Youth Caucus Staff. They work with the Youth Caucus Staff to fulfill the purpose of Youth Caucus, which is to serve youth who want to become more involved in Unitarian Universalism and grow as Unitarian Universalists, including youth who want to be involved in the business of Unitarian Universalism.

All expenses, including travel, meals, housing and registration at all meetings, including GA 2016 and GA 2017, is paid for by the Unitarian Universalist Association. 

The Deans choose and coordinate programming, select additional staff, facilitate meetings, collaborate with adult leaders across the Association and make Youth Caucus the best it can be. Youth Caucus is a great opportunity for youth from across the country to meet, learn, and have fun together.

Applicants must be high school students (grades 9-12 or the equivalent for home-schooled youth) for both years of their term, i.e.: for the 2015-2016 and 2016-2017 school years.

Submit a completed application as a .pdf or .doc to youthcaucus [at] uua [dot] org. The application includes responses to written questions and an optional video, as well as contact information for two references. Letters of recommendation are not required.

Youth Caucus Staff Positions

The application process for other 2016 GA Youth Caucus staff positions will open November 1, 2015.

Youth Positions

Worship Coordinator—1 youth—two-year position (GAs 2015 and 2016)

Chaplains—2 youth—one-year position

FUN TIMES (Business) Manager—1 youth—two-year position (GAs 2015 and 2016)

  • Help Youth Caucus understand and impact the business of GA.
  • Support individual youth delegates.
  • Coordinate visits from prominent Unitarian Universalists.

Connections Coordinator—2 youth—one-year position

  • Cultivate relationships between youth attendees, and between Youth Caucus and the larger GA community.
  • Organize formal, informal and spontaneous gatherings.
  • Coordinate with the Chaplain Team on issues of cliques and inclusion.

Applicants must be high school students for both years of their term (or the equivalent for home-schooled youth), ie: for the 2014-2015 and 2015-2016 academic school years.

Previous attendance at General Assembly is strongly recommended but not required.

Experience with multigenerational leadership teams is highly desired.

Adult Positions

Chaplains—2 adults—one-year position

  • Provide support and a listening ear for youth.
  • Serve on the Right Relationship Team.
  • Serve as a support for the youth chaplains and the rest of the Youth Caucus staff, in addition to the other chaplain duties.

Advisor/Sponsor Coordinator—3 adults—one-year position

  • Support Youth Caucus activities and staff members. 
  • Help maintain the safety of youth space and help make it welcoming for adults. 
  • Write letters to adult sponsors describing their role at GA and to youth explaining sponsorship.
  • Co-lead the mandatory sponsor orientation.  
  • Assist sponsors in an emergency.

Applicants must be 25 years or older for their whole term.

Previous attendance at General Assembly is strongly recommended but not required.

Experience with multigenerational leadership teams is highly desired.
