An important part of multicultural competency is being an astute observer of cultural messages about who belongs and who doesn’t. Practice noticing situations where people matter, and where they are marginalized, due to perceptions based on race or ethnicity. If you are the person being marginalized in a particular situation, how do you choose to respond? If you observe another person being marginalized, how do you choose to respond?
