Dr. Charlie Groth (Charlotte Celley Groth) began attending the First Unitarian Church of Trenton (now UU Church at Washington Crossing) in 1967 and remains an active Unitarian Universalist in New Jersey. She is a Lifetime Member of Girl Scouts of the USA, having invested in 1972, served as a Girl Scout leader for 18 years in two troops (levels Daisy through Ambassador levels), and advised a Campus Girl Scouts program. She has advised groups going through the Religion in Life: Girls program since 1998, revised the program multiple times, and led an all-ages RIL Alumnae group for many years. Both Unitarian Universalism and Girl Scouting have figured in her scholarly research projects, including a doctoral dissertation on empowering girls and women through Girl Scout ceremony.
