Keynote
Part of Regional Assembly 2020
Can We Design Beloved Community? There’s a theme going around that claims that inequities and injustice exist because our systems are broken. Aspen Fellow Antoinette Carroll, founder of Creative Response Lab in St. Louis, would say that our systems were designed to produce the impacts of inequity, injustice, and oppression that plague our communities. As Unitarian Universalists who aspire to a different vision of the world, our aspiration calls us to reimagine a faith where people of all identities can thrive bodily and spiritually. The keynote and workshop will explore the question how might we co-create Beloved Community within our faith and the larger world?
Presenter: Taquiena Boston currently serves as Special Advisor to the President for Institutional Inclusion, Equity and Change at the UUA. She collaborates with a cross-staff team called JEDI (Justice Equity Diversity Inclusion) that is guiding the culture change work to co-create with UUA and Beacon staff a workplace where people of all identities can be successful in their work, advance professionally and personally, and grow their leadership. Taquiena was also a member of the Core Team for the Entrepreneurial Ministry project co-sponsored by the UU Ministers Association and UUA. Taquiena is a member of All Souls Church, Unitarian in Washington, DC where she has served in various lay leadership roles.
