You're Invited to Virtual GA

The MidAmerica Regional Staff would like to personally invite you to attend the 2020 Virtual General Assembly (GA), which will be held online later this month, Wednesday, June 24th, through Sunday, June 28th. Whether you have attended GA dozens of times or this would be your first time to gather with thousands of Unitarian Universalists from across the country, we ask that if you can, please attend this year. Registration will be open throughout most of June, and the cost of this General Assembly is far lower than in previous years at $150. You can attend GA as a delegate of your congregation (and able to vote upon actions before the Assembly) or you can attend as a non-delegate. The registration process is the same for both delegates and non-delegates this year.

Naomi Klein

This year’s GA will include amazing worship and music, the Ware Lecture from Author and Activist Naomi Klein (author of books such as The Shock Doctrine and This Changes Everything), and the plenary sessions (business meetings) of our association, including reports from the UUA President Rev. Susan Frederick-Gray, the UUA Board of Trustees, and many other UUA Committees. This General Assembly is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about our Association and our shared work and ministries in the world.

One of the new additions to this year’s General Assembly will be a Featured Speakers Series that will include Roxanne Dunbar-Ortiz (author of this year’s UUA Common Read An Indigenous Peoples’ History of the United States), Dina Gilio-Whitaker (author of The Indigenous Fight for Environmental Justice from Colonization to Standing Rock), Jean Mendoza and Natalie Martinez (co-adaptor and author of An Indigenous Peoples’ History of the United States for Young People and the educator’s guide for that work), Howard Bryant (Senior writer for ESPN and author of Full Dissidence: Notes from an Uneven Playing Field), Robyn Henderson-Espinoza (Transqueer Activist, Latinx Scholar, and author of Activist Theology), Rosemary Bray McNatt and Elías Ortega (Presidents of Starr King School for the Ministry and the Meadville Lombard Theological School respectively), and John Buehrens (former President of the UUA and author of Conflagration: How the Transcendentals Sparked the American Struggle for Racial, Gender, and Social Justice).

There will also be many workshop opportunities and chances to connect and reconnect with Unitarian Universalists from across the country. So please, register at https://www.uua.org/ga and join us for this year’s Virtual General Assembly!
