Practical Advice about Copyright for Worship

Rev. Dr. Matthew Johnson

Rev. Dr. Matthew Johnson

Though he's not a lawyer, Rev. Dr. Matthew Johnson studied copyright law at length, before the pandemic, so his congregation could legally and ethically stream the whole worship service. Since last March, he's advised hundreds of colleagues, worked with the UUA, and continued to study this overly-complicated area. We'll talk about how copyright law, and our principles, work with respect to worship: readings, sermons, music, stories, images, videos, and more.

Rev. Dr. Matthew Johnson has served as the Senior Minister of The Unitarian Universalist Church, Rockford, IL, since 2008. He is the author of Newborn Bards: A Theology of Preaching for Unitarian Universalists, the past co-chair of the UUA Presidential Search Committee, a father, partner, runner, and fan of all kinds of puzzles.

Host: Rev. Sharon Dittmar
