Extended Leadership Experience - MidAmerica Region UUA 2023

MidAmerica Region is delighted to announce our next Extended Leadership Experience (ELE) 200 to take place starting at the end of February 2023. It is a chance to help you deepen your leadership skills and understanding.

What:

This class is a combination class—online on-demand preparation for each session available through the UU Institute Website, and then an online three-hour session on a Saturday morning. The Saturday morning sessions will be interactive and will require the learners to have done the pre-work for each session.

Each session will have two parts: Sharon Dittmar focusing on family systems theory and conflict transformation, and then Lisa Presley presenting a variety of leadership topics.

Sharon writes: This course offers lay members insight into congregational conflict using family systems theory and case studies. We will explore the basics of family systems theory, cultural and personal conflict styles, and the impact of personal and congregational history. We will learn how to creatively host difficult conversations so that participants leave with options for positive conflict transformation. I will bring information from coursework I have done at the Bowen Center for Study of the Family, the Management Center, and the Lombard Mennonite Peace Center.

Lisa will be covering these five areas: leadership qualities and gifts; adaptive and technical issues and solutions; change management; anxiety and conflict; patterns in your congregation’s life.

The pre-work and ongoing discussion will take place on the UU Institute Website—details on how to connect to the course there will be sent after you have registered for the course.

Please note: all learners will require a solid internet connection, and computer or telephone in order to participate in the course.

When:

The five sessions will be held from 7:00 am – 10:00 am Pacific time, 8:00 am – 11:00 am Mountain time, 9:00 am – 12:00 noon Central time, 10:00 am – 1:00 pm Eastern time.

As noted above, there will be pre-work for each of the sessions.

For Whom:

This program is designed for people who have significant previous leadership experience. It is ideal for those who have experience leading in congregations, and who have attended basic leadership programs. If you’re uncertain whether it’s designed for you in mind, feel free to reach out to Lisa Presley, lpresley@uua.org.

Cost:

The cost for the program will be $150; for those who are Black, Indigenous, People of Color, those who are young adults (under 35), those who are Trans or non-binary, and those with restricted income, there is a 50% reduction in the cost.

For more information, please reach out to Lisa Presley, lpresley@uua.org. Registration closes on February 22.
