Strategic Leadership (Training)

The third in our suite of Leadership Development trainings, Strategic Leadership is for board members, staff, program council members, ministry executive teams, finance committees, bylaws review committees, strategic planning committees, committees on ministry and any other leaders who need to think strategically. (Note: You will redirected to a separate website, uuinstitute.org, which is managed by the UUA.)

You will:

  • gain a deeper understanding of how to focus your congregation on mission, by building trust
  • learn to develop a cohesive leadership team
  • learn about stewardship
  • learn about strategic planning
  • explore annual goal setting and ministry assessment
  • learn the basics of congregational governance.

Training materials are divided into modules, available “on demand” as pre-recorded presentations with additional reading materials, discussion questions and other resources.

Prerequisites: Reading Congregational Leadership in Anxious Times, or taking Centered Leadership 100, Centered Leadership 101, Healthy Congregations®, Smart Church, UU Leadership School or equivalent.

The LeaderLab Design Team

Facilitators: This training is team-taught by various UUA Congregational Life Staff, and facilitated by the UUA Congregational Life Staff LeaderLab design team, the Rev. Dr. Jonipher Kwong, Kathy McGowan, and the Rev. Renée Ruchotzke.

Note for Leadership Development Teams

Each module has discussion questions (and sometimes activities) that you can use in person so your leaders can learn together and build deeper relationships and trust. The Facilitators monitor and respond to the discussion threads.

How To Take Trainings from the UU Leadership Institute

To take trainings, go to www.uuinstitute.org and click the register button in the upper right. (Note: You will redirected to a separate website, uuinstitute.org, which is managed by the UUA.)

That will walk you through the process of creating an account. Once you do that, you will get an email with a confirmation link that you need to click to activate the account. (You may need to check your spam folder. Please add uuinstitute.org to your safe senders list.)

You can then go back to the site and go to the Core Leadership Development Series in the trainings menu and scroll down until you find the class and click on it. The training costs $30.
