Safe from Harm

By Patricia Infante, Lisa Presley

This webinar will introduce you to resources to prepare and respond to a variety of situations that put your community at risk. We’ll touch on how to open up a non-anxious dialogue within the congregation, the role of the board in creating clear policies, and how to effectively prepare and train staff and volunteers. In the event your congregation is touched by the unexpected, we’ll share details on how to access the UU Trauma Ministry Response Team who provide tremendous support both in the immediate aftermath and for the foreseeable future.

We like to think of our congregation as a safe space that offers sanctuary from the world beyond but churches everywhere have become increasingly vulnerable to unexpected intrusions into our safety bubble. The threat of everything from a tornado, flood or fire to a stranger who enters our space with malicious intent is remote but real and all faith communities are encouraged to engage in an open and transparent process to create internal policies, action plans and training for staff and volunteers before the unthinkable happens. 2017
