Start Adaptive Leadership Training

The fourth in our suite of Leadership Development trainings, Adaptive Leadership is designed for experienced lay leaders and professional staff who are looking to help their congregations face challenges without easy answers.

The “Adaptive Leadership” framework, pioneered by Harvard’s Dr. Ronald Heifetz, is more than a toolbox of tips. It will change the way you think about your own leadership and will Training materials are divided into modules, available “on demand” as pre-recorded presentations with additional reading materials, discussion questions and other resources.

For the best results, take this training with several other congregational leaders as a team. You will use the concepts and strategies taught in the training to address a real case study from your own congregation with the instructor.

Training Syllabus (Word) (PDF)

Optional Text: The Practice of Adaptive Leadership By Ronald A. Heifetz, Marty Linsky, Alexander Grashow

(Prerequisite: Centered Leadership 100/101, Healthy Congregations®, Smart Church, In-person Leadership School or equivalent.)

Instructor: Rev. Renée Ruchotzke, UUA Congregational Life Consultant

Note for Leadership Development Teams

Each module has discussion questions (and sometimes activities) that you can use in person so your leaders can learn together and build deeper relationships and trust.

The Facilitator will monitor and respond to the discussion threads, will review the assignments, and will be available for two phone/zoom consultations.

How To Take Trainings from the UU Leadership Institute

To take trainings, register at the UU Inistitute. (Note: You will redirected to a separate website, uuinstitute.org, which is managed by the UUA.) That will walk you through the process of creating an account. Once you do that, you will get an email with a confirmation link that you need to click to activate the account. (You may need to check your spam folder. Please add uuinstitute.org to your safe senders list.)

You can then go back to the site and go to the Core Leadership Development Series in the trainings menu and scroll down until you find the training and click on it. The training costs $30.

There is a full video tutorial on how to register for the site, purchase a training and how to navigate the trainings.
