Throughout the pandemic, inclusion, care, and connection have been guiding principles. We focused our ministries on remaining connected to our communities while prioritizing the health and safety of our most vulnerable friends and family members. As we contemplate a return to in person congregational life, care demands that we remain open and accessible to our people who will not immediately be able to join us in person. Whether we call this hybrid, multi-platform, or dual-platform, congregations across the size spectrum are expecting to provide both in person and online opportunities. Families with children and youth have additional needs, especially as vaccines are not yet available to children and youth. To include these vital members of our communities in our dual platform future will take joint planning by ministers, boards, reopening task forces, religious educators, and lay leaders in religious education programs.
Bring a team to this conversation to help your congregation plan for the emotional and spiritual needs of your whole congregation. Congregational Life staff from across the country will share some framing and guidance in moving through this planning process. You’ll have a chance to meet in smaller groups, based on congregational size and numbers of children and youth, to share where we are now and learn from each other.
Note: The small group process will use some skills from sociocracy that leaders may find useful to use in congregational life.
