Participating on the board in a large congregation requires a certain skill set and understanding of governance in large churches. Many board members may have experience in other organizations, but church leadership has its own unique character and spiritual dimension. Your UUA LeaderLab Team is offering a training just for you!

We want to save you the work of creating your own in-house training. We are offering an experience where you can review the presentations and other prework at your own convenience ahead of time, then attend the live session where you will be able to engage with board members from other large congregations.

This event offers a structured afternoon of online small group work with lay leaders from other large congregations, case studies and creative problem solving. Participating congregations will be given planning tools to have a self-directed planning meeting leading to Board goals at another time.

Pre-work will include frameworks such as Hotchkiss's Governance and Ministry partnership, conflict and change dynamics, cultural competencies, fiduciary responsibilities, efficient meetings, mission-based budgeting and decision-making, self-differentiation, and boundaries, change and conflict, and spiritual grounding.

Cost is $200 per Congregation. Please register and pay for the congregation, then have each board member complete an individual registration.

Please note that the registration is by invitation. The registration forms include a list of invited congregations. If your congregation is not on the list and you believe your congregation qualifies as a large congregation, please contact your regional staff.

Registration deadline is August 19, 2023
