UN Sunday
Date: Passed: Saturday, October 8, 2016, 8:00 pm EDT
The Sunday program’s focus was on intergenerational activities.
9:00 and 11:00 Worship Services
Rev. Abhi Janamanchi’s service was entitled: “Blessed Are the Peacemakers”
Service Description: On UN Sunday, we will reflect on the UN Charter’s goal “to save succeeding generations from the scourge of war.” What is the distinction between peacemaking, peace keeping, and peace enforcement? What does Unitarian Universalism have to say about peacemaking? What Unitarian Universalist values uphold peace? The service will investigate.
50% of the collection taken at the first and second service has been donated to the UU-UNO.
10:00 and 12:00 Chapel Service for Cedar Lane Youth
Presentation of Cedar Lane’s Rwenena (Ruh-NEHN-uh) Kids (formerly Congo Kids) project. Congolese journalist Solange Nyamulisa was a special guest.

Cedar Lane Forum
The Forum, held between the 1st and 2nd service, offers church members and the larger community an opportunity to discuss a broad range of contemporary issues and explore their ethical and spiritual dimensions.
For UN Sunday, Robert Skinner, the Director of the United Nations Information Center in Washington D.C. (and the UN Secretary General’s representative to the United States) addressed the Forum.
Senior High Youth
Cedar Lane members, who are Returning Peace Corps Volunteers, met with the Senior High class to share their overseas experiences and to talk about the UN.
And, after each service, cake was served as a way to thank Cedar Lane for its generosity to the UU-UNO.
