Parliament of World Religions

By UUA International Resources

The 2009 Parliament of World Religions recently concluded in Melbourne, Australia. More than 220 faith traditions were represented at this global event by 6000 people from 80 nationalities. Unitarians were key organizers of the first Parliament held in Chicago in 1893. On the 100th anniversary of that momentous gathering a second World Parliament was held in Chicago, and further Parliaments have taken place every 5 years since. In 2009 the global Unitarian/Universalist movement was represented at the Parliament by the International Council of Unitarians and Universalists (ICUU). ICUU representatives provided a workshop on congregational interfaith work, and staffed a booth in the Exhibit Hall. We look forward to a report. Much of the Parliament was covered online. Get a taste of it from the Australian Broadcasting Company's "Talking of Faith" blog, from photo streams, and from video.
