The General Secretary of the Unitarian Union of Northeast India - Bah Brington Mylliemngap - died on Tuesday, February 26th in Shillong. Brington Mylliemngap was born in 1936 and got his BA degree from Guwahati University in 1960. From a humble beginning in 1961 in the government service he gradually rose to retire in 1995 as the Deputy Secretary of the Community & Rural Development, Government of Meghalaya. He became active in the activities of the Unitarian Union of North East India since 1980 — holding several key posts in the course of time, such as Secretary of the Advisory Committee, Social Service Committee, HKS Library Committee, etc. He was also on the Finance Committee of the Union, and ultimately became its General Secretary in August 1995, the post he held till his last breath. He will be remembered for his hard work and dedication to the service in the Unitarian Union. His local church at Madan Laban, Shillong, gave him the Lifetime Achievement Award on September 18, 2007 when the Union celebrated its 120th Anniversary, in recognition of his great love and hard work for his faith. A soft-spoken man with evident integrity was greatly loved by all sections of the community. His voluntary involvement with the Kharang Rural Center, local Sports & Cultural Club and other social groups was remarkable. He was also the President of his Mylliemngap clan. According to the Assistant General Secretary of the UUNEI - Rev. Helpme Mohrmen - Bah Bring had suffered from serious bronchial asthma for the last few months and had been in the hospital during much of that time. He was 72 years old. The bereaved include his wife, their three children, and many grandchildren. UUNEI Education Committee member, Khlur Mukhim writes that, "The unitarian union has lost one of its most sincere and dedicated officials." Khlur describes the funeral services held on February 28th,

The service started at the late leader's residence about 2 pm. We then moved to the nearby church where representatives from many churches attended a special service conducted by the Association of Ministers of UUNEI, sermon being given by Rev HH Mohrmen. Rev PG Marbaniang gave a beautiful ode to his illustrious father, and expressed abundant thanks to all who had shared his family's burden. The last part of the funeral service was done at the graveyard where I said a prayer. I guess about 800 people attended today to pay respect to the departed soul. It's such a special occasion where nearly all officials and ministers of the UUNEI gathered in unison.

Letters of condolence from around the world were read during the church service, including the following from UUA President William G. Sinkford:

"So if one of the members suffers, all the members suffer with it..." --I Cor. 12:26 Dear Reverend Mohrmen, It is with deep sadness that I learned today of Brington Mylliemngap’s death. This is a very sad day, not only for Bah Brington’s family, but for the entire Unitarian Union of North East India and the global Unitarian/Universalist community. Bah Brington offered every one he met the gift of his serene wisdom and always demonstrated a uniquely strong commitment to his faith. I will remember him for these qualities, and as a caring friend to both his local community and the world. I would like to extend my personal condolences, and the condolences of Unitarian Universalists throughout the United States to Bah Brington’s family, and the entire Unitarian Union of North East India. The grief that his family and all who knew him are feeling is necessarily sharp. This is how it always is when a beloved soul passes to the Hereafter. Let us have faith that our memories of Bah Brington, and the love for him shared by the bereaved, with time will transform into a graceful calling to model our own lives upon the most beautiful and purest aspects of his life.
