United Nations Sunday: Acting Globally
Date: Passed: Saturday, October 20, 2018, 8:00 pm EDT
I started planning our United Nations Sunday way back last May, when a former church member, Ray Rainbolt announced that he and his family would be going to Ghana for several weeks this summer to work with the people there, thereby in conjunction with our UU-UNO national focus on Acting Globally.
The next major aspect was to ask the Northern Blend acappella Chorus if they would be a part of the Service, which we scheduled for October 21st.
The Service went beautifully. All four members of the Rainbolt family participated, telling the children’s story and illustrating their mission to Ghana with slides and stories. Our offering was dedicated to the work of the UU UN Office and Individual member supporters filled out the special envelopes.
So far we have eight individual supporters, more than the 5% of the congregation needed for us to be a Blue Ribbon congregation again. There was a celebratory cake (another traditional aspect of All Souls UN Sunday activities).
This was our 43rd annual United Nations Sunday observance.
