Tour Experience: The Story of Segregation in Kansas City
Local area UUs will guide visitors in an exploration of race and place in Kansas City. Our city is not unique demographically today, but practices like neighborhood covenants, blockbusting and redlining, which promoted white flight from our once vital urban core, were perfected and exported from Kansas City. The tours are informed by historians, the book, ”Some of My Best Friends Are Black”, by Tanner Colby and civic engagement librarians.
The tour is presented by All Souls UU Church of Kansas City, Missouri and Shawnee Mission UU Church of Lenexa, Kansas.
Pre-Registration required; $40 per person.
The excursion includes a booklet of the tour and each three-hour tour will end with a visit to the 18th and Vine Jazz district for refreshments.
