Does anyone know where there is good coffee, especially with Wi-Fi, near the convention center?

City Market Coffee is probably the best independent downtown, and right in the City Market, but not too close to the convention center. There are both Kaldi's and Starbucks a few streets over from the convention center, with seating and WiFi.
Within a few blocks, there is Starbucks (of course) and also Kilo Charlie's and Kaldi's. If you want to explore a bit, Thou Mayest is great. My personal favorite is Broadway Cafe, which is 3.5 miles from the Convention Center in the Westport neighborhood. I'm pretty sure all of them have wifi, but its been a year or so since I've been to the downtown shops. Others can speak to the wifi question.
Of course, I am assuming that the insurance company will have the WiFi booth set up in the exhibit hall, but I have not started the search of local places yet—probably on the train to Kansas City. . . .
The convention center is selling Wi-Fi, too, it turns out, but it's not particularly cheap.
That is generally true at convention centers—I investigated that at one of ours in the last couple of years. The Occupy National Gathering actually rented mobile hot spots for our gatherings in Kalamazoo and Sacraments, though we were not as successful at live-streaming as we had hoped, our media person was able to report from the public space without other WiFi. Probably too late now, given how close we are to arrival date: https://daypasswireless.com mails one the device, you mail it back within a set period after your rental term.
