Well, hi everybody. Welcome to the Partnership Portal. My name is Mary Bernard, she/her pronouns. I am the Publications Director at the UUA and I want to introduce you to a resource that will help you with the dreaded permissions problem that so many folks in congregations are constantly struggling with. Unfortunately, a lot of the stuff that is in the UU hymnals or even in Skinner House books comes from other sources and so you don't automatically have permission to do whatever you want with it, as much as it might seem like you should, and it can be complicated to sort out what you have permission for and what you don't how to get the permission. The good news is that we've created a resource for you to help you figure that out, other good news is that we have done work to clear as many of those permissions for you, in advance, as we can. So the simplest thing to do is to just Google this: Copyright Primer for Congregations, and it'll pop right up. And it's a web page on UUA.org that's set up like a flowchart, so even though it's a very long document you can just answer questions and when you answer the question it will skip you to a link to where you need to be, so you don't have to learn all of copyright law all you need to do is answer the questions on the web page. Follow the hyperlinks and it will direct you to do you need the permission, is the permission already granted, and if not how can you request it. There's lots of information on there about the exemptions for congregations, Fair Use, Public Domain Etc. So, I hope you find that helpful. If you look through it and there's still something you can't quite figure out please do feel free to email me Mary Benard; MBenard@uua.org, and we'll do our best to help you out. Thank you so much.
