Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer Ministries
Risking a new vision for our world since 1973.
Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer Ministries (LGBTQ Ministries) is guided by the vision that someday we will be able to put ourselves out of business and that oppression against people of all ages, abilities, colors, and economic classes who are marginalized on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity—whether the oppression be overt or subtle—will be a thing of the past.
For resources on welcome, ministry, and advocacy for people with marginalized sexual orientations and gender identities, please check out LGBTQ Welcome & Equality.
This Unitarian Universalist Association office has had many names over the years, as the language of sexuality and gender has shifted and changed. In 2010 the name became LGBT Ministries, and July 1, 2012, it became LGBTQ Ministries. Read more about this new development.
LGBTQ Ministries is a department of the Multicultural Ministries team. Multicultural ministry encompasses many aspects of identity—race and ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, ability/disability, class, age, language, citizenship status, and more. Our LGBTQ ministry efforts are grounded in the intersections of these identities.
