Faithful Fools

Faithful Fools was founded in 1998 by Kay Jorgensen, a Unitarian Universalist minister and Carmen Barsody, a Franciscan from Little Falls, MN. The two of them were inspired and supported by a strong community of people who worked together in founding a community dedicated to deep personal change in the service of deep social change.

As Kay and Carmen walked up and down the hill from the Unitarian Universalist Church of San Francisco into the Tenderloin and back again, and extending the streets to Nicaragua their mission emerged into the statement that guides the life and work of Faithful Fools to this day.

We are called to a life of presence that acknowledges each human's incredible worth.

Aware of our judgments, we seek to meet people where they are through the arts, education, advocacy, and accompaniment.

We participate in shattering myths about those living in poverty, seeing the light, courage, intelligence, strength, and creativity of the people we encounter.

We discover on the streets our common humanity through which celebration, community, and healing occur.
