Emerson UUC was approached 2 years ago to host a Girl Scout troop when they lost their previous meeting site. A proposal to be this troop's host congregation was taken to the Children & Youth RE Committee for discernment; when approved there, the proposal went to our Faith Development Council, who approved and forwarded the proposal to the Membership Council (they oversee affinity groups). With unanimous recommendations to host the troop, the proposal was put on the consent agenda of the Board of Trustees and passed. The troop meets every other Friday evening for 2.5 hours for fun, fellowship and scouting. They do Service Projects for the congregation and the community. They do not pay rent or do fundraisers at the Congregation site. Their trained leaders and girls abide by our building and Safe Congregation Anti-child Abuse policies. There was no controversy in hosting this group. We do not have Troop info on our website.
