Guest in Your Pulpit - Rev. Renee Waun
Ordained in 1981, Maurine (Renee) C. Waun, D.Min. served Unitarian Universalist (UU) churches in Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia until 2018 when she retired from active ministry. Prior to church work, she spent ten years as a teacher on a variety of levels including Montessori, high school and university. She has been active in AIDS advocacy, as well as speaking and serving on behalf of disenfranchised groups through various boards of directors. Dr. Waun's book MORE Than Welcome: Learning to Embrace Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgendered Persons in the Church received the Publisher's Choice Award from Chalice Press. In 2006 she became Founding Sponsor of the African Rural School Foundation, for AIDS orphans and disadvantaged children in Africa, and took volunteers on annual trips to Uganda for 15 years. In her retirement, Dr. Waun lives in Columbus, OH, travels a lot and spends time with her family.
