Guest In Your Pulpit - Amy Kay Watson

Guest in Your Pulpit

Amy Kay Watson is a lay leader and seminary graduate (M.Div. from Princeton Theological Seminary) with four units of CPE experience. Rather than pursuing ordained ministry she built her career in corporate and higher education environments where she has focused on humanness in business relationships and identity -- knowing who you are, who you aren't, and aligning your true self with your actions. She currently coaches corporate leaders in these issues. She is credentialed by the International Coach Federation and certified as an Evidence-Based Coach from Fielding Graduate University.

Titles of programs/sermons and a brief statement of content on each:

  • Cultivating Grace in Difficult Times: (20-minute sermon) No matter what your value system may be or how it may shift over the transitions in your life, no matter how important it is for you to remain aware of your values and to uphold them with your decisions and actions, perfect compliance is not within our grasp. Mistakes and misjudgments will always be part of who we are. We may be aware of how things should be better. How we should be better. But our inherent value as human beings is not dependent on our consistency. You are in the human family. Accept it.
  • Sensing a Disturbance in the Force: This 23-minute sermon orients listeners to the emotional cycle of change so they can understand their current and anticipated experiences. With a message that urges listeners to develop a practice of gratitude as a coping strategy for surviving big changes, this sermon was written to be delivered just before a new minister begins but was offered with equal impact during the changes of the pandemic and is adaptable for any situation where your congregation is experiencing big change.
  • It’s a dangerous business going out your door: Our congregations are called to address needs and problems in the world, not just provide comfortable cocoons for liberals in a populist world. This 20-minute sermon supports a congregation as a whole and members individually when they are [fearful but] feeling called to transcend boundaries and attempt what seems impossible.
