Urban Plunge Youth Cluster Event
Type of event: Training
Sponsor: Central East Region of the UUA
9 am to 4 pm. Due to facility size constraints, groups will be assigned to a shift when registration is complete. Specific time requests cannot be accommodated. Plan for the earliest time until notified differently.
An Urban Plunge is an experiential opportunity for youth to learn firsthand about injustices that affect our homeless community and hear from folks providing the social services and those experiencing homelessness. We will visit “The Storefront”, a space owned and operated by the Cleveland Catholic Worker and the home of Urban Hope UU Ministry on every Sunday. The Storefront offers community, food, showers, and basic supplies to people in need. The morning session will include brunch with clients from the community and opportunity for service. The afternoon session will be the larger group that will include discussion of the Catholic Worker movement and UU principles, a neighborhood tour, a speaker from the NE Ohio Coalition for the Homeless, evening facility set up, and debrief.
Capacity for this event is 20 youth. The required youth to adult ratio is 7:1. Each congregation must send one responsible adult. This event is for youth in grades 7-12 or home school equivalent and at least 12 years old.
The meal to be shared is provided by Catholic Workers. We cannot be certain that dietary restrictions will be able to be accommodated. If that is a need, please feel free to pack a lunch.
This event is being offered in conjunction with the Homeless on Hillard event. You are welcome to attend both events, or only one. The registration form is for both events, please indicate if you will be attending one event or both.
Cost of this event is $5, paid in advance to your youth advisor or DRE in cash only. If you wish to attend both events, the cost is $10. You may request a waiver if you need one.
