SLD YAC Conference
Type of event: Conference
A youth con full of mystery, intrigue, and enlightenment. And FUUN!
Please note - Saturday dinner: formal wear (black tie) optional. Weather appropriate clothing is a must for the rest of the weekend.
There will be three activities to choose from, on Saturday from 2-4 pm.
- Interfaith Conversation: Hosted by the Syracuse UU Teens, we will host a dialogue between teens and leaders of various local faiths to learn more about each other and discuss issues that are important to our various communities. We hope to discover where we have common ground and celebrate our differences. Transportation will be by advisers.
- MOST: Science and religion are complementary ways to understand our world. While we often focus on gathering as people of faith, we would like to invite everyone to get together in a spirit of discovery (and fun) as well by visiting the Museum of Science and Technology. The cost of the visit, depending on the size of the group, will be between $6-$12. It is intended as a chance to celebrate science's place in our community. Transportation will again be by advisers.
- Social Justice Seminar: Currently New York State is one of only two states in the Union that charges 16-year-olds as adults. Emily NaPier, the Director of Justice Strategies for the Center for Community Alternatives in Syracuse, will provide both a seminar on the current penal system and an opportunity for social action regarding this issue. It's a chance to both understand and act. This one will take place at the church.
Capacity for this event is 90 youth. If the form is closed and we are not yet at the deadline, please contact the registrar to be placed on the waiting list. The required youth to adult ratio is 7:1.
