Workshops in Session A

  • Reenergizing and Sustaining Annual Stewardship Drives and the People Who Run Them with Liz Coit from Stewardship for Us. session will begin with a discussion about continuing and emerging challenges to UU congregations’ annual giving drives. How we can make the best use of stewardship fundamentals to re-energize and sustain our pledging and fundraising programs? This session addresses the power of nurturing stewardship volunteers as leaders; and the role of stewardship committees vis a vis other committees to optimize the culture of stewardship in your church/fellowship. Liz Coit has a 25 years career in resource development and fundraising. She is a member of the All Souls Unitarian Univeralist Church in Washington DC.
  • Messaging in Pictures: Graphic Design for Amateurs in Your Congregation with Rev. Karen Johnston. Love graphic images to get your message across but not sure how to do it? Think only graphic designers can do it? Think again. This workshop will show you how to use the graphics platform, Canva, to create content for newsletters, Facebook, web sites, and bulletin boards.  You must bring your own laptop (other devices don't work with this platform). We'll sign onto wifi and experiment with making graphics, exploring awesome sources of copyright-free materials. There will be time for you to share your knowledge and tips on the topic. Rev. Karen G. Johnston is the settled minister at The Unitarian Society in East Brunswick, NJ. She has always loved the combination of images with words, decades ago painting them, now experimenting with online graphics. She's NOT a graphic designer by trade, but LOVES doing it and wants more people to have this skill. Plus, she'd love to learn more from others.
