Providing Pastoral Care is a skill that takes time and intention to develop. This skill-building workshop for Lay-Pastoral Care providers and teams is designed to develop skills in focused listening, pastoral presence and communication, and emotional intelligence. It also explores the nature of both lay and professional pastoral care, and the roles and boundaries of each.
The Rev. Lyn Cox is a UU minister in final fellowship and a pastoral counselor certified with the National Board of Certified Counselors. As a minister, she has served congregations in California, Maryland, and Pennsylvania; and served our faith on the full time staff of the former Joseph Priestley District. Rev. Cox holds an M.S. degree in Pastoral Counseling from Loyola University of Maryland, an M.Div. from Starr King School for the Ministry, and a B.A. in Journalism from the University of Maryland. She lives with her family in Baltimore, Maryland.
Cost is sliding scale $60-$70-$80 based on your assessment of your ability to pay. Those who pay at the two highest levels are making a donation to help those in financial need for this event. Please remember that for a sliding scale to work, we need the same number of people with means to generously pay more to balance the needs of those who can afford less.
If you are members from First Unitarian Society of Ithaca, UU Congregation of Binghamton, UU Society of Oneonta, First UU Society of Syracuse,May Memorial UU Society or UU Church of Athens & Sheshequin the cost is $20. Those churches are supplementing the cost of the training.
