Board Basics Training for Congregational Leaders

Board leadership in a UU congregation calls on a unique set of skills and attitudes. Not every person elected (no matter how enthusiastic they are!) comes to the work with a full sense of what is means to serve and the skills needed to serve well. Congregations are encouraged to send a team of leaders, chosen from both newly elected and returning leaders, to attend this day long workshop presented by your staff from the Central East Region of the UUA.

Covered topics include:

  • What it means to serve on a board
  • Governance v. Ministry (the Hotchkiss model)
  • Effective meeting strategy
  • Effective communication strategies
  • What it means to be a healthy leader
  • Board as employer
  • Budget Processes and other tools for effective board management

We'll gather at 9:30 for coffee and conversation and begin the workshop at 10 am. Lunch is included with your registration.

Cost: $25 per person. In order to encourage your full board to attend, each congregation registering 3 people at full price will receive a coupon code to register a 4th person at no charge ($75 total for a team of 4!) The fourth person registering should contact their minister or president for the discount code to enter when they register.

This event is now Full, please contact the registrar Amy Kent at akent [at] uua [dot] org to be placed on the waiting list. Those who are part of a team already registered will be prioritized.
