Activate! Shared Ministry Day NY
Type of event: Conference
Join us for a day of dynamic creative interchange as we co-create our vision for the ministry of our congregation. Anyone involved or interested in programs or ministries (worship, pastoral care, social justice, faith development, social events, hospitality, etc.) are welcome to join us!
We’ll learn and practice fun and effective ways of working and learning together, then use what we’ve learned in the afternoon to activate our ministries and programs! Working together in trust and mutuality makes space for creativity and joy.
The structure of the day will be be based on principles of circle leadership, such as we practice in covenant groups and restorative practices. We'll also learn a bit about Sociocracy, an organizational system that will help the congregation’s programs align themselves with the mission while keeping creativity high and bureaucracy low.
Circles are based on the values of consent and mutuality in service of the mission. Each ministry operates as connected fractal circles (similar to Peace Circles or Covenant Groups) that enable organic communication and coordination. We will also practice using circles to work through conflict using Restorative Practices.
The day will be facilitated by our UUA primary contact, the Rev. Renee Ruchotzke. She has been incorporating Sociocracy, Permaculture Principles and other systems to help dismantle systems of oppression in our UU congregations and other community organizations.
Cost: $10 at the door. Childcare is $5 per child at the door. You must request childcare in advance by January 6.
Registration deadline is January 17, 2020
